You will notice there will be more than 50% of garments’ material might be using polyester fabric, it becomes popular in garments making, so why is it so popular? In this article, you will find out the benefits of polyester fabric.
What is Polyester?
Polyester fiber, commonly known as “polyester”. PET fiber, made by polycondensation of organic dicarboxylic acid and diol, simplified as “PET Fiber”. It is a kind of high molecular compound and invented in 1941. It is the largest variety of synthetic fiber at present. The biggest advantage of polyester fiber is good wrinkle resistance and shape retention, high strength and elastic recovery. It is firm and durable, wrinkle-resistant and easy to iron, and does not stick to wool.
Because of the functional characteristics it has, here we listed some of the main benefits of polyester fabric:
High strength and toughness.
The strength of short fiber is 2.6 ~ 5.7cn/dtex, and that of high strength fiber is 5.6 ~ 8.0cn/dtex. Because of its low hygroscopicity, its wet strength is basically the same as its dry strength. The impact strength is 4 times higher than nylon and 20 times higher than viscose fiber.
Good elasticity.
The elasticity of polyester is close to wool. When the elongation is 5% ~ 6%, it can be almost completely recovered. The crease resistance is better than other fibers, that is, the fabric does not wrinkle and has good dimensional stability. The elastic modulus is 22 ~ 141cn / dtex, which is 2 ~ 3 times higher than that of nylon. Polyester fabric has high strength and elasticity.
Heat resistant polyester fiber is made by melt spinning, and the formed fiber can be heated and melted again, its the type of thermoplastic fiber.
The melting point of polyester fiber is higher, but the specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity are smaller, so the heat resistance and thermal insulation of polyester fiber are higher. So it’s the best synthetic fiber.
Good thermoplastic and poor melting resistance.
Because the surface of polyester is smooth and the internal molecules are closely arranged, polyester is the best heat-resistant fabric in synthetic fiber fabrics. It has thermoplastic properties and can be made into a pleated skirt with lasting pleats. At the same time, the polyester fabric has poor fusibility and is easy to form holes when it meets with soot and sparks.
Good wear resistance.
The wear resistance is second only to nylon, which has the best wear resistance, and its better than other natural fibers and synthetic fibers.
With all those benefits the polyester fabric has, it is widely used in not only fitness garments, and also in most of the casual outfits, and of course, it is welcomed of using by our seamless fitness clothing too!
